step 3 - laying the pipework

Laying the pipework is probably the most physical part of the project. It involves digging!! You could hire some equipment to help. If it is a new lawn you should lay the pipe before spreading the Lawn Mix and Grass Seed

A few key things to consider when laying the pipework:

  1. Use 19mm lateral pipe that can handle 500kPa pressure. Lower rated pipe will kink easily and your tap pressure could exceed the pipe rating.

  2. Your design should achieve the shortest runs between manifold and each heads. Refer to Step 2

  3. The system is low pressure so it does not need to be deep. As long as the pipe is covered.

  4. You will have to dig deeper holes where the rotator heads will be. Refer to Step 7.

  5. Digging will make a mess of an existing lawn. It will need a good tidy up when complete.

  6. Because of the mess, lay your irrigation piping BEFORE you lay new turf.

  7. Use hot water to make the joints easier to fit.

  8. Tie off the ends and pressure test BEFORE burying the pipe
